| 2004 Report 2005 Update: LHH defensive liability who has moved backwards for me. Body still in top shape. Broad wide shoulders and developed back. High hips. Very long legs. Nothing he does is esp. athletic. Some cave man in him. Swing path has gotten worse and batspd not what it was last yr. so swings issues are much more visible. Big loop with hds and bathead out in front of head makes it very hard to get bat in right position against quality stuff. Way too long. Late in season tried to eliminate loop and simply load his hds straight down but after a couple weeks he was back to old loop and now with an ugly hand hitch. Don't like plate disc. Tweener-high K's but he's not letting swing really go when he does swing, once he commits it's more of a contact approach. Soft .300 for me with huge K's and few BB's. Lots of soft GB's to right side. Can't get around on quality stuff under his hds with hd loop and I'm not confident he'll be able to rid himself of it. Pitchers @ upper levels will exploit it. Front shoulder leaks. Still shows off plus raw power. Power not going to be enuf to wash out lack of avg and subpar defensive skills. Fringy runner who should end up adeq. on bases. Strong avg throwing arm suitable for RF. Short INF release. Can get a lot on it off of his back ft-lots of chances to do it. Makes mistakes every night with leather-don't see any improvement. Never gets camped under a ball, constantly on move and catching balls in full stride after bad breaks. As mentioned with throwing, doesn't get behind ball to set up to throw. Arm could easily be plus if he had proper footwork. Should get some big league time but for me he is an up and down type player who could be eaten alive with gd advance scouting-thus the interest in short spurts @ big league level. Swing much too complicated and he's streaky to like him as a lefty bat off bench. |
