Comments:
Big righty with plus FB. Huge frame, resembles a young Jose Mesa. Med. windup. Large step to
the side and med. leg lift. Lands softly on line towards the plate. Spins off, lots of late effort to
get arm and backside thru. Arm action is med. length circle, throws from catchers slot once arm
gets up. Arm gets up early and he has to pause a bit to keep from rushing out. No deception. FB
is heavy and straight. Struggles to stay on top of his pitches even with large size and slot. Doesn't
locate FB. Extent of command is cutting plate in 1/2 and hoping it will be somewhere over the
plate. Doesn't miss lots of bats w/FB. Offspd offerings are inconsis. Flashes plus bite and velo
with SL but more often arm spd slows and he guides it toward the plate. CV is thrown with
slurvy action on it, again inconsis. Will never be better than below avg, I would have him scrap
the CV and focus on the SL as his one breaking ball. CH is wba @ this point. Slows arm spd
tremendously and telegraphs it. Arm spd problem with offspeed pitches has apparently always
been an issue with him and he doesn't seem to grasp the concept of it. Locates offspd better than
he does FB which is worrisome from the perspective that he will have to dial down his FB (as he
does his offspd) in order to throw strikes. Future role is out of the pen. He should focus on a FB
SL combo and focus on perfecting those two. He will always have a job in AAA due to arm
strength but I don't see him figuring it out.
