Comments:
Loose armed righty, patterns delivery and approach after Pedro Martinez. Bigger and stronger
than Pedro @ same age. Body looks to be durable and delivery gives him a good chance to stay
healthy. Very good athlete. Sets up well over rubber. Rythmic delivery, steps off towards side to
start deliv. Leads w/front shoulder. Keeps weight back very well. Hides ball in back. Landing
inconsis. and slot floats over course of game hurting his command a bit. Arm action is very short
and tight. Fast arm. Consis. from a velo standpoint from outing to outing but quality of pitches
varies. FB generally sits 91-93 touching some 94's. Heavy FB, sizzles on way towards plate. FB
too flat, will fight to stay on top of his offerings. First sign of laboring, gets on side and
underneath. Area command @ best with FB. Will have to locate batter inside zone as he moves
up. FB would jump at least 1/2 grade if he moves to bullpen. CH is solid avg right now, with more
consis. will be plus. Great armspd and action to it. Can cut it or turn it over for for arm side run
and sink. Very soft. Gets lots of early swings with CH. Legit strikeout pitch. Falls in love with
CH too much considering how promising other pitches are. Throws it for strikes. Will occ. elevate
CH when ahead in count but control is generally solid. Flashes  true curve in between inn. but
struggles to take it with him to game. Generates great spin from huge hands and long fingers,
quality two plane break. Solid avg velo. Against hitters he throws thru it and it turns into a slurvy
spinner. Command inconsis. Will have outings when he can drop it anywhere and the next time
out can't find the plate with it. Generally up in zone on days I saw him. I don't see command
being avg down the road but it's very tough to walk away from the stuff. I worry that to get the
necessary command to be a starter he may have to dial FB down, is prob. best suited for bullpen
role. If command comes without losing stuff he profiles as a starter, I like him as a #4 starter.
Should try to add some consis. to his exciting stuff back in the Cal League next year.
